Sound Without Sight Community Lead (x2)

Introduction

We are very excited to share that we are now recruiting for two Community Leads, who will help us towards our mission of connecting blind and partially sighted musicians and audio engineers to one another, and to resources, support and opportunities.

These roles are supported by Fight for Sight’s Capacity Building fund, which is supporting the creation of a sight loss sector that is coherent, sustainable, and resilient to the rising demand for equal service provision across the UK.

What will the roles involve?

You will work remotely with our Project Manager, interacting with the industry across many touchpoints, supporting blind and partially sighted musicians to create, perform, and release their music, and develop as artists.

Duties could include:

• Developing a supportive community of blind and partially sighted musicians, including exploring opportunities for mentoring and peer support.
• Interviewing musicians and music technology designers, attending and reviewing concerts, visiting inclusive studios and venues with a view to promoting their work via the Sound Without Sight website and podcast.
• Creating and managing content for the Sound Without Sight website.
• Monitoring community emails, posts, and comments, to influence content commissioned by the project.
• Supporting the curation and delivery of our Monthly Meet-up Sessions.
• Providing feedback on new accessible music technology developments.
• Building relationships within the music industry to raise the profile of blind and partially sighted music-makers.
• Creating and releasing social media content to promote the work of the project and its community.
• Working with talent streams in the UK, to ensure that their services are accessible to blind and partially sighted musicians.

There will be some degree of flexibility in the roles, allowing duties to be tailored based on your individual experience and desired career path.

How will the role support me?

The internships are offered on a freelance basis, with the programme offering a stipend of £657.28 per month to cover 12 hours work on the project per week (£12.64 hourly rate). Your working pattern can be flexible to allow you to explore other work, study, or commitments. This is a remote working opportunity. Travel expenses are available for events.

Who are we looking for?

We want to hear from candidates with a passion for accessibility in the music and audio industries, who love creating engaging content and who are confident using online tools to collaborate remotely.

We believe that this opportunity would be particularly exciting to candidates who have lived experience of blindness or partial sight, or a connection to the community of blind and partially sighted musicians.
