We absolutely love this music video from Abo, a young Syrian rapper who’s taking part in the Young Creatives project. He came up with the track after just a few weeks of writing and practising – amazing work!
And we’re also really enjoying this track which was written, recorded and produced by young people on the Nature Beats project in Coventry. Big bass, dancey synths and powerfully honest lyrics.
Cohesion Plus Kent
While you listen, enjoy these great photos from the Community Beats project. Fusing traditional sounds with contemporary music, it’s giving young people the chance to learn about Indian dhol and African djembe drumming, and to showcase their new skills at community festivals.
The Music Works
This is a fantastic original song by Bethanie, who took part in the Music Minds project. Working in settings across Gloucestershire, the project is piloting a music-led approach to reducing mental health issues among young people.
The Fine Futures project, run by Slough-based Beat Routes, uses music-making to help 13-25 year-olds develop confidence and skills to get (back) into education, employment or training. ‘Imagine a World’ is a powerful music video written, performed and produced by young people from the project.
The Amber Foundation
The Amber Music Project in Devon is providing music-making opportunities for young people facing really tough challenges including homelessness and unemployment. It’s helping them to express themselves, manage their emotions and build self-confidence and self-belief.
Here’s a brilliant song with a positive message, made by a group of young people on the project at The Amber Foundation.
Music Partnership North
A big hats-off to these Northumberland pupils, who braved the rain to perform in public as part of the Bedlington to Ashington Building Brass project run by Music Partnership North.
The brass band tradition is strongly linked with the area’s mining heritage. Working in partnership with local schools and communities, the project is giving young people the chance to learn brass instruments and develop personally and socially, while continuing the brass band legacy.
Fairbeats work with children from refugee, asylum seeking and new migrant communities in London. Here’s a wonderful video by the young people from their project, celebrating the statue they co-created with the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich.
More great songwriting skills! Here’s a live acoustic version of ‘Inevitable’, the debut single by Simone. She’s a young artist on the Soundtrax project run by SoundWave, who work with young people from rurally isolated and economically deprived areas across Cumbria.
Lastly for this edition (but by no means least) – we can’t get enough of this song created by young people from the Off the Beat project in Northumberland. A backing track made from samples of door noises and a super-creative, psychedelic video!
Contains some sequences with flashing lights.
