Youth Music has completed its response to the DfES Green Paper, Youth matters

The young people consulted flagged up key concerns for the government to consider

Youth Music’s funded activity is directly influenced by the views of young people.  In order to respond to this Green Paper, we consulted with a cross section of young people aged 12 –20+ from diverse backgrounds in focus groups around the country.  Their views are directly represented (indicated young people) throughout.

46 young people were identified through Youth Music Action Zones to participate and the consultations were carried out in Birmingham, Norwich and Thanet.

The young people really engaged with the consultation and were very willing to explore the proposals set out in Youth Matters. They agreed with some of these proposals but flagged up some key concerns for the government to consider. They also made recommendations to ensure young people received the high quality services they deserved.

It is hoped that a group of young people will present the response to Beverley Hughes (Minister for Children, Young People and Families) at the DfES towards the end of November.
