Youth Music Action Zone nominated for Classic FM & Gramophone Award
Pie Factory Music shortlisted for 'Music in the Community'award
This year Gramophone and The Times have again joined forces to create a special prize — the Music In The Community award — to honour someone who has inspired others to transform their lives through music
We are very proud to announce that the Youth Music Action Zone for Thanet - Pie Factory has been nominated for this award. Pie Factory has been selected from 80 short listed organisations and has now reached the final five!
"There are nice young people in Thanet," says Mike Fagg, Pie Factory’s founder. “And they want to do well. But there are massive pockets of deprivation and few opportunities. The great thing about music is that it’s a huge thing for young people, so it’s an entry point into their lives. Once we have engaged them in music we can help them acquire the skills they need to be employable.”
Pie Factory was set up as a Youth Music Action Zone in 1991. Since then 80,000 places have been taken at its classes, which range from DJ-ing techniques and African drumming to singing for all ages, from toddlers upwards.
Congratulations to Mike and all the team at Pie Factory!
