Young film-makers demonstrate the power of music
Check out films created by young people in a joint GMMAZ/Youth Music/Media Trust/Mediabox project for Youth Music Week 2009.
This year GMMAZ (the Greater Manchester Youth Music Action Zone) and Youth Music partnered up with the Media Trust and Mediabox to deliver a film-making project with the final results screened at a special event for Youth Music Week 2009.
The project was a development of the DCMS supported Youth Music Mentors programme and produced 5 short films incorporating original music. Each film was inspired by the 'Music is Power' theme that was taken on by all Youth Music Week events and activities.
The project lasted for a week bringing young people from across Greater Manchester together, developing their skills in pre-production, filming and editing techniques as well as important life skills such as time keeping, working to deadlines and even lip synching!
Workshops were initially run at the Workers Film Association providing intensive training for the young people involved with the project culminating in a premiere evening at Manchester's Band on the Wall on Monday 9 November. The participants involved felt a massive sense of achievement with one saying, "I've created something that I own." Another young participant said, I've seen something through, from it being on paper to something that is now a real music video."
And you can check out a couple of those real music videos below. A fantastic result for all those involved!
