Rhythmix YMAZ band to join NME tour
Mumm Ra will play with The Horrors and The Automatic on the 2007 NME Shockwaves Tour
Youth Music is delighted to announce that Rhythix band Mumm Ra have been invited to join the 2007 NME Shockwaves Tour alongside the likes of The Horrors and The Automatic, establishing the Bexhill-on-Sea boys as a band to earmark for future greatness.
Mumm Ra signed to Sony BMG just over a year ago after attending Rhythmix, the South East Action Zone for the previous two years. The YMAZ provided the boys with a place to rehearse, use of PA’s, amps and an opportunity to rehearse after school with like-minded people as they embarked on the rocky musical road.
Oli Frost (guitar, vocals) commented: “When you’re 15 you are hardly gonna spend money on rehearsal studios! For that reason, Rhythmix really helped us out. They even put on the odd gig with other local bands and when we started putting on our own gigs, they’d always support and even lend us their PA! In schools there is always an opportunity to play the trumpet or whatever but it’s great that there are organisations out there thinking more alternatively.”
Since December 2000, Youth Music has set up 24 Action Zones in areas of social and economic need and geographical isolation across England and Wales. The aim is to provide music-making activities to young people who might not otherwise have the opportunity. The Zones are made up of established organisations from the public, voluntary and private sector. They cover all genres of music and deliver a wide range of activities including workshops, rehearsals, performances, one-to-one teaching and mentoring.
