NYO applications for 2010 close 1 July
just one week left for your young musicians to apply for the 2010 National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain
Applications for the 2010 National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain close on July 1, 2009
One of our National Youth Music Organisations, NYO has been described as ‘magnificent’ by The Times and ‘a credit to Britain’ by The Guardian, and brings 165 talented young musicians together from every corner of Britain.
Players need to be Grade 8 standard, but do not need to have taken any exams. The NYO also welcomes young composers to take part, writing music in collaboration with orchestral players which they can then hear brought instantly to life.
NYO would like to encourage young musicians to join them for a year of fantastic musical adventures. 2010 highlights include Shostakovich Symphony No.5 with new Principal Conductor Vasily Petrenko, Bernstein’s MASS with Marin Alsop, and a return to the BBC Proms. In April 2010, the NYO has been invited by Southbank Centre to be the British orchestra in the international ‘Varèse 360’ festival. Sharing the stage with the London Sinfonietta, the NYO will perform Edgard Varèse’s epic orchestral works alongside a groundbreaking video installation by Gary Hill, following in the footsteps of professional orchestras like the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra who are launching the festival in Amsterdam and Paris this year.
Candidates should simply visit www.nyo.org.uk to find out what’s involved and to begin an application. It’s completely free to apply and audition.
