Opportunities in YMI funding

At the heart of the Youth Music Initiative is the ambition to enable each young person in Scotland to:

• Experience music-making
• Have their musical preferences respected and supported
• Have access to high quality musical resources
• Continue to develop their music-making to whatever level they aspire

From this ambition the open funding scheme for the informal sector has been
revised and developed, and launched in April 2005 by the Scottish Arts
Council. The scheme has two themes:

1. Early Years music-making for children 0-5 years and their families
2. Creative music-making for children and young people 5-25 years

The aims of the scheme are to:

• Widen participation
• Sustain participation
• Organise participation
• Promote participation
For Pre-5s

Encouraging regular music-making activities for children aged 0-5 years

• Grants are available for up to a maximum of £30,000
