Estelle DONATES-A-DATE to Youth Music

MOBO award winner Estelle is the latest big name artist to support Youth Music's DONATE-A-DATE campaign by inviting aspiring young musicians to meet her backstage on her upcoming tour.

October 2004

The 24 year old London-born rapper won the MOBO award for best UK newcomer and is launching her debut album '18th Day' later this month. To mark the event she is performing with a full live band for the first time at the Islington Academy in London on 18th October.

Young fans from across the country have been invited to enter a prize draw for the chance to win the unforgettable experience of meeting Estelle in person and receiving exclusive signed merchandise.  They will also get the chance to see her live show with the benefit of VIP tickets.

DONATE-A-DATE is a way for artists to support youth music-making in areas of social and economic need.  The campaign helps national charity Youth Music engage a wider audience of young music-makers and to raise much-needed funds for extending its remit beyond England to support music-making for young people who lack opportunity in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

Kelly Rowland, Placebo and Sum 41 are among other artists that have supported the campaign. All DONATE-A-DATE proceeds directly benefit young people participating in Youth Music projects across the country.

Richard Utting, Head of Fundraising & Development at Youth Music, comments: "Many of the young people targeted by Youth Music are heavily influenced by urban music so we are delighted that Estelle is showing her support in this way. Meeting her in person will be an inspiring and unforgettable experience for the young people and will help us promote the educational and social benefits of music-making. We hope to see many other artists from other popular music genres endorse the work of Youth Music in the future."

The online prize draw is being hosted on SoundStation.org.uk - Youth Music’s online resource for the million children and young people that have benefited from its funding to date – and on MTV’s website at www.mtv.co.uk

DONATE-A-DATE is endorsed by the BPI, AIM and AURA.
