Lancashire Action Zone band selected to play at prestigious Manchester gig

Radio 1's Mark Riley and Doves' manager Dave Rofe were among the judges to select Morecambe band Tin Soldiers

The band, Ryan Wallace, Joe Kondras, Matt Whitehouse from Morecambe High and Rory Howson from OLHS submitted their demo to the organisers of Step Up, The North West Schools’ Art Festival for the chance play at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, on July 5 as part of an event called Transmission.

At the event a handful of hopeful acts will get to support some big names on the music scene. The lads were short listed from hundreds of Lancashire up and coming bands to audition in front of a panel of music professionals including Mark Riley (Radio 1), Doves' manager Dave Rofe, Sam Walker from Key 103 and Rob O'Shea from Sheffield Arena.

After wowing the celebrated judges they were offered the slot with four other young acts from across the region. On the night Tin Soldiers will play support to Polytechnic and Daywalkers.

Tin Soldiers have grown from More Music Morecambe’s youth project Stages and regularly play at The Carleton Young Persons Band Night. The band are all delighted to be chosen and singer Matt told us “We’re so pleased to be supporting a band like Polytechnic who have been billed as the next big thing to come out of Manchester. We were surprised at first but we’re all chuffed to bits!”

The Band hope that this gig along with their unique mod/pop style and original songwriting will give them the exposure they need to take their music to a wider audience.

Tickets are £6.50 (£4 under 18s) from The Bridgewater Hall
