Global Beats hit North Yorkshire Action Zone

Tune-In offers free world music workshops and community music training for half-term

Tune-In, the Youth Music Action Zone for North Yorkshire, is delighted to offer a range of fantastic free music workshops to celebrate Youth Music Week during the half term holiday, October 22–27.  The workshops offer a rare opportunity to work with world class musicians in a fun, supportive environment where everyone can have a go.

Global Villages, organised by Harrogate International Festival, will see celebrated Brazilian musician, Gustavo Marques, taking an exciting journey through samba and bossa nova, bringing all the colour and pizzazz of Mardi Gras to North Yorkshire!  Participants will learn to play a variety of percussion instruments, experiencing new sounds and learning about the colourful traditions and culture of Brazil.
At the end of the day participants will get to show off their new skills in a short performance to family and friends. The workshops are free of charge and open to those aged 8 – 12. They will take place in Skipton, Ripon, Spofforth and Birstwith. For bookings and further information please contact Fleur Bremner

Continuing on our world music journey, Pied Piper Projects are bringing a taste of Greece to Yorkshire with workshops led by Plastic Chairs, a trio who perform music, song and dance drawn from and inspired by Greek traditional music. Participants will learn some of the songs and dances that the group perform as well as exploring a range of percussion instruments to create cool rhythms to accompany the music. They will also get the chance to work with Plastic Chairs to create an original piece of music that they can then perform to family and friends. Alongside all these activities Plastic Chairs will be painting a vivid and lively picture of Greece and it’s culture, bringing a sunny Grecian vibe to brighten those dull Autumn days.
Workshops will take place in Helmsley and Pickering and places are limited. For bookings and further information please contact Lucy
