Free vocal workshop in Grantham
Classy Voices workshop for those working with young people in Lincolnshire
Classy Voices are coming to Grantham in the form of an all-day training workshop open to adults who work with local children and who want to make the most of singing with them. The workshop will be free of charge and will take place in Grantham Guildhall on Monday 16 March, running from 10.30am until 3.30pm, and pre-registration is essential to secure a place.
Leading the session will Em Whitfield Brooks, who describes herself as ‘a singer, song-writer, director, teacher and ex-clown’. Em has over 20 years of experience working in schools, colleges, community and corporate settings, and is keen to encourage teachers and youth leaders to use singing to communicate in new and interesting ways.
The Classy Voices workshop in Grantham is one element of the county-wide programme of specialist training run by soundLINCS - Lincolnshire Music Development Agency – in partnership with Lincolnshire Music Service. Part of the Government-backed ‘Sing Up’ National Singing Programme, for which soundLINCS is an Area Leader, the training takes the form of practical and topic-specific workshops in schools, arts centres, village halls and other community venues around the county.
‘All the workshops are fun, friendly and informative – and free,’ explains soundLINCS Programme Development Officer Louise Salmond Smith. ‘The sessions are suitable for absolutely anyone who engages with children, ranging from people with little experience of group singing to those who want to develop their existing vocal skills. We’re welcoming a real diversity of participants, with teachers and classroom assistants joining pre-school staff and playground supervisors, childminders, arts facilitators, youth workers and leaders of groups like Scouts, Guides and Brownies.’
Details on how to register for Classy Voices in Grantham, and on workshops at other venues around the county, are available from soundLINCS.
