First Notes from soundLINCS
Lincolnshire Music Development Agency soundLINCS deliver programme of workshops
First Notes is a programme of workshops devised by Lincolnshire Music Development Agency soundLINCS and delivered under the sound52 YMAZ banner. Over the last six years, a team of professional music facilitators have been trained and equipped by soundLINCS to work in nurseries, crèches and pre-schools across the county, and literally thousands of children and adults have now experienced First Notes through over 1,200 residencies in settings across both the maintained and non-maintained sectors.
Usually held weekly, First Notes sessions introduce practical music-making in a sociable and creative atmosphere, involving concepts like rhythm, pulse, tempo, dynamics and even elementary composition. Separate sessions with staff and parents are also offered, with the aim of leaving each setting with the skills and confidence to develop music-making with all of their children.
Drawing on the ideas and experiences of its music facilitators, soundLINCS has also just published a 2nd edition of its First Notes Resource Pack. Commissioned by the Lincolnshire Birth to Five Service, the pack has been updated in line with the new Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is supplied complete with a supporting CD and wall-planner.
