DCSF announces National Year of Music Celebration

Ed Balls announces a year of unprecedented music opportunities for young people

To coincide with Shine Week, Ed Balls – Secretary of State for Children Schools and Families – has announced details of exciting plans for the academic year 2009-2010. A national year of celebrating music will commence in September 2009, encompassing unprecedented opportunities for children and young people across the country to participate in a range of music-related activities.

The Secretary of State has written a letter to organisations that he hopes may become strategic partners. In the letter, he explains his plans and seeks support from relevant organisations for the programme during the forthcoming academic year.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), seeks to collaborate with other organisations to celebrate music, and use music to shine a spotlight on other art forms.
