Bookstart Scotland and Youth Music UK pilot
Youth Music UK has developed an exciting new project with Bookstart in Scotland
The project involves linking books and music for babies with literacy development, and we are currently seeking two local authorities to work with us to pilot the project!
This is a ground-breaking partnership project for the UK, and could see all newborn babies and their parents within the pilot areas having access to high quality music sessions coupled with book sharing experiences and the developmental benefits which go hand in hand with this.
The partnership aims to provide an opportunity for local authorities in Scotland to bring music making to babies by providing a musical resource within the Bookstart pack that is currently distributed to all parents of new babies. The packs will be linked to the training and development of local Bookstart Rhymetime deliverers, and these sessions will further equip parents with the confidence to make music with their children in libraries, at home or wherever they are.
The project will be piloted, thanks to the support of the Scottish Arts Council’s Youth Music Initiative.
