Andy Burnham visits GMMAZ for Youth Music Week event

The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport joins in our celebration.

As part of this year’s Youth Music Week celebrations, GMMAZ - the Youth Music Action Zone for Greater Manchester hosted an event at the Royal Northern College of Music attended by the Rt. Andy Burnham, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport and MP for Leigh, Manchester.

The event showcased GMMAZ’s leadership of music making programmes across Greater Manchester and its positive impact on both Manchester’s hardest to reach and most talented young people.

Performers at the event included:

• A school choir from Holy Family RC Primary, Sale who are participating in the Sing Up programme
• Young people who have participated in GMMAZ’s mentoring programme, Step Up Your Game
• Young people who have participated in GMMAZ’s AMP programme, which supports the progression of talented musicians, including MCs, singers, drummers and saxophonists

The event was also attended by local dignitaries, Youth Music’s Chairman Richard Stilgoe and Chief Executive Christina Coker as well as a  number of key stakeholders within the music education and community music sectors in Greater Manchester.

The event, which launched GMMAZ’s autumn programme of work featured a number of new pieces of music composed and written by the young people during a series of Youth Music Week workshops earlier in the week.
