Rising Stars for 2010: Shiva
Shiva, a young band supported by CM, look destined for success in the coming year.
The band who hail from South East London are set to release an EP on their own label and will be taking to the stage at Underage Festival later this year.
Former XFM DJ Alex Zane is clearly a fan. He says, “...this band is electric! Once you've heard them you'll wonder what you've been doing with your life."
Shiva have been supported by CM, a youth and community organisation that provides opportunities for creative music making to people of all backgrounds. CM were also recently involved in delivering a Youth Music Power Play funded project aimed at 13-19 year olds in the London borough of Tower Hamlets.
Band member Alex Saleh was additionally one of the winners of our very own Build a Band competition which gave him the chance to perform on the Leftfield Stage at Glastonbury 2008.
Since then Alex and the other band members (Franklin Dawson, Milly Dawson, Audrey McIlwain and Henry Nicholson) have benfitted from CM’s guidance and recently jetted off to Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas (yes that's right- the Bahamas!) to record some songs and work towards their first EP with legendary producer Terry Manning.
The resulting EP is scheduled for a March release on their own label. CM have been providing Shiva with professional advice and PR support and will feature the band on their very own stage at Underage Festival this summer.
Shiva first formed in 2007 and have gone on to play at some top London venues, performing regular gigs on the SE London live music circuit. Check out the video below to sample some of the action:
