Arts Council England warns of 10% cuts
Arts Council Chief Exec, Alan Davey, sends letter to regularly funded organisations advising them to prepare for a 10% reduction in funding for 2011/12
As reported on the Music Teacher Magazine website, Davey forewarns regularly funded organisations to 'model prudently for a 10% reduction in funding for 2011/12' and goes on to reveal that Arts Council England (ACE) has been asked by the Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, to prepare for budget cuts of 25% - 30% over four years.
Musical institutions make up 99 of around 850 regularly funded organisations (RFOs), most of which are involved in music education..
Davey also acknowledges in his candid letter that ACE 'would no longer be able to fund many organisations in the way [it has been] to date', and that cuts of up to 30% 'would mean significant change'.'
A toolkit has been produced by ACE to help RFOs to lobby effectively against significant cuts. The figures are not 'set in stone', says Davey, and the ACE 'will argue that any cut needs to be managed intelligently, and in a way that protects the achievements of the last 15 years'.
