SoundWave sings out
SoundWave, our Cumbrian Youth Music Action Zone helped raise the spirits of those who suffered the devastation of the region's severe flooding at the end of November 2009 by bringing everyone together in song.
Amidst all the current talk of 'The Big Freeze' it's hard to remember that back at the end of November 2009 Cumbria suffered some of the worst floods in recent history, causing havoc and tragedy for people across the West Cumbria area.
At the beginning of December SoundWave co-ordinated a mass singing event to rebuild community spirit and raise much needed funds for flood victims.
The idea was to bring together those in the area and surrounding regions to sing 'What Can Be Done?', a song written by Workington musician Scott McKenzie from local band Eventual Breakdown in response to the flooding.
The song was specially dedicated to the memory of PC Bill Barker, the brave officer who lost his own life saving others and has been made available to download.
We put out a call on this very blog in an attempt to get as many people singing for West Cumbria as possible. A month on, we thought you might like to see the results of SoundWave's stirling efforts - check out the video below and visit the SoundWave website to download the song.
