Youth Music Week 2009

To help celebrate our 10th Birthday and Youth Music Week 2009, more than 70 musicians and visual artists took part in Destroy / Rankin, a body of collaborative artwork based on the photographer, Rankin's iconic portraits of musicians.
Artists such as Jarvis Cocker, U2, Debbie Harry, Little Boots, Kylie and visual artists including Damien Hirst 'destroyed' a Rankin print of themselves or a musical hero and turned the image into an original piece of art.
During Youth Music Week (7-14 November) we staged a takeover of Phillips De Pury & Company in London for a festival of art and live music featuring performances from artists involved in the project leading up to a nail-biting auction of 25 of the key artworks.
As well as a high-profile Private View event we put on 2 exclusive and intimate Destroy / Rankin gigs featuring Little Boots and Reverend & The Makers respectively. Both acts, who also contributed artworks to the project, thrilled the crowds who were gathered together in the stunning gallery backdrop.
The principal artworks were finally auctioned off on Saturday 14 November, raising over £52,000 for Youth Music! The remaining artworks have been sold online via eBay.
