The Yorkshire region covers 15,411 square kilometres and has a population of over five million. As well as thriving urban towns and cities, Yorkshire has more National Park land than any other region, and boasts spectacular scenery and a Heritage coastline. North Yorkshire and the Humber area are primarily rural whilst South and West Yorkshire are mainly urban, based on traditional industries undergoing transformation. There is both rural and urban deprivation and affluence.
There is a high density of music activities in some areas such as Leeds and areas covered by Youth Music Action Zones. However, South Yorkshire and pockets of West Yorkshire, currently have limited activity.
A key focus for Youth Music over the next five years is to continue developing partnerships and improving music-making opportunities that help disadvantaged children and young people in Yorkshire.
