East of England

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk and the unitary authorities of Luton, Peterborough, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock.

Regional Executive Officer: Lyndall Rosewarne

The East of England region extends from Hertfordshire and Essex to the intensely rural areas of the Fens and coastal Norfolk. There are a few distinct areas known for their social deprivation such as Great Yarmouth and inner Norwich. In general deprivation is hidden, but most small towns have an area of a few streets or an estate known for poverty and social problems. Typically the amount of grant funding across all social programmes coming into the East region is very low.

With the exception of Norfolk and Norwich, there are very few community or informal music-making organisations. In many areas the sector lacks consistency and, whilst programmes may buy in musicians, they ultimately fail to find any sustainable format for continuing provision.

Our continuing strategies in the region include developing partnerships and improving music-making opportunities that help disadvantaged children and young people
