Music Education Hubs

As a result of Youth Music’s recent and significant restructure, the roles of Regional Executive Officers (REOS) are amongst those coming to an end on 31st March 2012.

For this reason Youth Music is unable to pledge specific advisory support from its staff to emerging Music Education Hubs.

Youth Music’s support for Music Education Hubs will be as follows:

Grant recipients of our Strengthening the Sector modules will be expected to liaise with and support Music Education Hubs.  These modules are as follows:

• Musical Inclusion
• Networking – building and maintaining networks (which can focus on Early Years or Encouraging the talent and potential – or progression environments - for young musicians).

Delivery of these modules will start in early 2012/13, and in some cases organisations delivering these modules may transpire to be Hub lead organisations.

In late January 2012 on the Youth Music Network website, we will publish a list of organisations who’ve applied to lead these modules and have reached the second stage of our grant application process. This is so that there are opportunities for those organisations and those applying to lead Hubs to contact one another if they so wish.

The delivery of our Learning and Participation modules will enhance the musical offer to children and young people within hub areas.

Increasing alignment between our grant giving and identified regional / sub regional need should come from Hubs’ increasing clarity around priorities and focus.

In short, in identifying the need for their work we will expect applicants to our modules to have discussed the ‘fit’ between their proposed work and the priorities for a hub / region and will seek to prioritise our grant giving to best address greatest need and gaps.

In some cases successful applicants will be the same organisations as Hub Lead organisations.

In all cases we want to fund the organisations best equipped to deliver on particular modules and ensure that they are appropriately linked into the work of Music Education Hubs and Arts Council Bridge Organisations

Providing the means to access and share practice, the Youth Music Network provides all those delivering music making activities to young people with the means to share knowledge and practice and establish relationships with a wider constituency.

Through the Youth Music Network we wish to facilitate debate and discussion around the work people and organisations undertake and the evidence they gather.

We hope the Youth Music Network will provide a means to better support each other and improve our combined music offer to children and young people. If you’re interested in how you can feature Youth Music Network content on your website (or vice versa), or wish to explore other opportunities for website syndication, please let us know.
