Regional Executive Officer: Trevor Mason

London is one of the world’s leading cultural and entertainment centres that make it a major global city. However, London imposes many constraints on its residents. They have the longest working hours nationally and the longest commutes, making it difficult for the city’s working parents and carers to include music making as part of their daily routine.

The diversity of London’s population is one of its greatest strengths and the source of much of its creativity and energy. Currently over 300 languages are spoken in London schools. It is a young city, with more than one-fifth of the population under 18 - a higher proportion than most other European cities.

Music has the potential to create opportunities for increased participation so everyone feels valued and their talents fully developed. Youth Music’s investment complements both in-school and community activities.

Our continuing strategies in London include developing partnerships and improving music-making opportunities that help disadvantaged children and young people
