National Youth Choirs

Founded in 1983, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain (NYCGB) has grown to become one of the world’s leading choral organizations, with an enviable reputation worldwide for its imaginative and inspirational concerts, recordings and projects.

Originally set up as a single choir made up of 100 of the best young singers in the nation, NYCGB now comprises an educational structure which includes:

  • Three Junior Choirs (NYJC)
  • Two (north and south) Training Choirs (NYTC) for 13–18 year olds
  • The National Youth Choir (NYC) itself for 16–22 year olds
  • The graduate Chamber Choir Laudibus
  • Girls Choirs (north & south): girls are allowed to audition from the age of 11 years, with membership ceasing when the member reaches her 16th birthday
  • Boys Choir: boys are allowed to audition from the age of 9 for the Boys' Choir, with membership ceasing when his voice drops comfortably into a lower register, usually between the age of 13 and 15
