Rock band Placebo DONATE-A-DATE
DAD Placebo

Placebo launched Youh Music's DONATE-A-DATE campaign with a show at Brixton Academy on 22 April 2003.

Placebo, recently in the charts with 'Bitter End' the first single from their new album Sleeping with Ghosts, are the first band to support the campaign.

Youth Music is hoping that successful artists across all music genres will support DONATE-A-DATE and encourage young people to pick up an instrument or start to sing.

Placebo’s Brian Molko said: "It's great that Placebo can help Youth Music in its commitment to ensuring music making is available to every young person. I wish it had been around when I was younger."

By working with the world’s musicians’ Youth Music is trying to gain as much funding as possible to provide quality music-making opportunities, involving a variety of genres, to inspire and engage young people across the UK.

Christina Coker, Chief Executive, Youth Music said: "I would like to thank Placebo for kick-starting Youth Music’s DONATE-A-DATE campaign. Everyone at Youth Music is really excited about this initiative. It is great to have such a creative band supporting our work, as creativity is so important to what we do as an organisation."

Other highly successful Youth Music industry ventures include the sale of the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) ABBAMANIA CD which helped to set up opportunities in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales and the Instrument Amnesty that enabled over 6,000 donated instruments to be given to youth and music organisations.

DONATE-A-DATE is supported by AIM, AURA, Echo and Virgin.
