Help children learn and develop
Music is an amazing tool to help children learn and develop. Extensive scientific research has shown that music activities can help young children in particular develop skills in listening and concentration, communication and physical coordination as well as laying down the foundation for reading and writing.
One of our priorities is working with children aged 0-5 years old, a key time to embed music in the lives of all children. Through our Music Start initiative, we have supplied 100,000 families in 25 of the poorest areas in the country with a free pack to help them make music at home with their 2-5 year olds.
As lead partner on the Sing Up programme, we are making sure that singing is at the heart of every primary school child's life. We believe that singing has power to change lives and help to build stronger communities.
It is only possible to achieve this great work due to the dedication of the many music leaders that deliver our projects. Through the MusicLeader programme, Youth Music plays an active role in encouraging and supporting musicians to become better music leaders, ensuring that young people are getting the best music-making experience possible.
"You have helped my autistic son's communication skills enormously and we are very proud of his achievements that you have encouraged. We were at a low ebb and it has helped us to see the light at the end of the tunnel."
Kathy, mum of Ian, aged 4, Cornwall
