The Licensing laws in England and Wales are changing on November 24, 2005, ensure your organisation has the right licence to continue to stage entertainment, sell food or alcohol.

Early years

Overall aim:

To ensure that every child aged 0-5 has access to music-making opportunities in England.

Key messages:

Children in early years universally enjoy music-making.
Music-making is a unifying activity that brings communities together.

Rationale

Youth Music is targeting the 0-5 age range as this is the key time to embed music in the lives of all children (In England).

Music education is important to the overall development of the child’s physical, emotional and psychological well-being. Youth Music believes that all children 0-5 should be entitled to music-making opportunities.

Children universally enjoy music. Children learn about being in groups, develop listening, watching, sharing and collaboration skills. Music-making also develops motor skills and physical co-ordination.

For parents, music helps in the development of parenting skills and relationships they have with their children. Music also reinforces the enjoyment of each other’s company and develops the confidence musically of parent and child.

Youth Music wants to invest significant funds in quality music making opportunities for the 0-5 age group.

Specific aims and activities

To improve the reputation of music-making and its benefits for children under 5
To improve the overall standards of music leadership in the early Years sector
To invest in training and skills development and improve overall standards of music leadership in this sector
To increase the number of music-making opportunities for children 0-5 in England
To build relationships with the early years sector involving, early years practitioners, childminders teachers, parents and the wider community
